TO ALL PRIESTS AND RELIGIOUS WORKING IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF LAGOS, AND THE LAY FAITHFUL
Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord:
- THE MONTH OF JUNE: I heartily welcome you to the month of June, 2025. This month leads us from the joys of Easter to an anticipation of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, a renewal of the Holy Spirit which we all received at our Baptism and Confirmation. This month equally marks the end of the first half of the calendar year, as the Church resumes the season of Ordinary Time of the year, a period of growth. It is a period in which we are called to bear the fruits of the Holy Spirit that we receive afresh at Pentecost. Aligning our voice to that of St. Paul to Timothy, (2 Tim 1:6-7), we are reminded once again to fan into flames the gifts of God which we have received through the anointing with the Sacred Oil of Chrism at Baptism and Confirmation. Having come to the beginning of the second half of the year in this month, we should make efforts to evaluate how far we have kept the resolutions we made at the beginning of the year and ask ourselves if we have truly hearkened to the promptings of the Holy Spirit through the proper use of the gifts given us. This month also presents us with these important feast days: St. Justin (1st June), St. Charles Lwanga and Companions (3rd June), St. Boniface (5th June), St. Norbert (6th June), Solemnity of the Pentecost (8th June), Mary, Mother of the Church (9th June), St. Barnabas (11th June), St. Anthony of Padua (13th June), Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity (15th June), St. Aloysius Gonzaga (21st June), Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (22nd June), Solemnity of the Nativity of John the Baptist (24th June), Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (27th June), Immaculate Heart of Mary (28th June), Solemnity of SS. Peter and Paul (29th June).
- POPE’S INTENTION FOR JUNE 2025: That the world might grow in compassion: Let us pray that each one of us might find consolation in a personal relationship with Jesus, and from his Heart, learn to have compassion on the world.
- ARCHBISHOP’S INTENTION FOR JUNE 2025: For Seminarians: We pray for all seminarians that God will continue to guide and inspire them as they prepare to serve the Church as faithful ministers of the word and sacraments.
- JUBILEE OF HOPE PROGRAMME: In this month of June, we continue the programmes of the Jubilee Year of Hope. The following are the Jubilee celebrations for the month. We ask those concerned to take note and make plans to celebrate them with appropriate programmes DATE ACTIVITY ACTION VENUE RECOMMENDED ACTIVITIES ACTION PARTY 4th June, 2025 Jubilee for Priests Regional Level Recollection and Talk on the theme of the Jubilee All Priests in the Archdiocese will gather in their respective Regions. 3 28th June, 2025 Jubilee of Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue Archdiocesan Level Mission and Dialogue Department.
