TO ALL PRIESTS AND RELIGIOUS WORKING IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF LAGOS, AND THE LAY FAITHFUL
Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord:
- THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER: Welcome to the penultimate month of the Year. During this month, the Church has two very important celebrations: All Saints (Nov.1) and All Souls (Nov.2). These liturgical celebrations call to mind the importance of living saintly life and the reality of human mortality. They are a vivid expression of our faith in the Communion of Saints i.e. the link among the faithful who have already attained the joys of heaven (Church Triumphant), the faithful departed who are still undergoing the pains of expiation for their sins in Purgatory (Church Suffering) and, all of us, the faithful who are still on pilgrimage in this world, working out our salvation amidst the vicissitudes of life (Church Militant).
2. POPE’S INTENTION FOR NOVEMBER 2025: For the Prevention of Suicide: Let us pray that those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts might find the support, care and love they need in their community, and be open to the beauty of life.
3. ARCHBISHOP’S INTENTION FOR NOVEMBER 2025: For Greater Devotion to Praying for the Dead: We pray for a greater devotion among Christians to praying for the repose of the souls of the faithful departed that God may grant them relief of their suffering and the gift of the beatific vision.
4. SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING AND CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION: The Solemnity of Christ the Universal King, which marks the beginning of the final week of the liturgical calendar for 2024/2025, comes up on Sunday, 23rd November, 2025. On this day, Eucharistic Processions shall take place throughout the country. The procession from Holy Cross Cathedral to St. Gregory College shall begin at 2.00pm on that day.
5. Archdiocesan Governance Guidelines Study and Quizzes: Creating an enabling environment for advancing God’s kingdom in parishes, councils and lay organizations, is the responsibility of all of us. You are invited to stand up and be counted by equipping yourself with the requisite knowledge to do just that. Parish priests, parishioners, chaplains, members of lay organizations and councils in the Archdiocese are invited to study the Archdiocesan Governance Guidelines at all levels – parish, deanery and archdiocesan.
