BAPTISM OF THE LORD
The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord marks the conclusion of the Christmas season and the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry. In humility, Jesus steps into the waters of the River Jordan to be baptized by John, not because He needed repentance, but to fully identify with humanity and to sanctify the waters of baptism for our salvation.
As Jesus emerges from the water, the heavens open, the Holy Spirit descends like a dove, and the voice of the Father proclaims: “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased” (Luke 3:22). In this moment, the mystery of the Holy Trinity is revealed Father, Son, and Holy Spirit present together in the work of salvation.
The Baptism of the Lord reminds us of our own baptism, through which we are cleansed from sin, reborn as children of God, and incorporated into the Body of Christ. It is not merely a past event, but a living grace that calls us to daily conversion and faithful discipleship.
As we reflect on this feast, we are invited to renew our baptismal promises and to live as beloved sons and daughters of God, bearing witness to Christ in the world through lives of holiness, love, and service.
